A Healthy Perspective, For A Healthy Mind, Body And Spirit by Yaz Rooney
I attribute good health to the way that we view Life, and the way in which we see ourselves. To be at odds with either Life or with our sense of self, creates stress in the body, and over a long period of time, this manifests as disease.
Here are some of the thought processes that I use to keep my perspective, and therefore my sense of balance in everyday life. I’ve arrived at this place through experience (not belief), and through a lifetime of observation and spiritual practice. It’s taken a long time to get here and I can say now that finally, my perspective brings peace to my once combative, harried mind. I hope you’ll get something from this post, even if it’s only a glance at the world from a completely different perspective!

What I Tell Myself:
- Do not argue with the way things are in the world. Life has its own agenda, and we have little choice but to live our lives according to it. Everything is as it should be. To argue is to be at odds, and to be at odds means to live in a state of stress.
- Life has its own rhythm, and that rhythm has purpose. When I argue with it, I am out of sync and therefore out of balance.
- I am allowed to do my best to help others, because that’s how Life organizes itself. When I am prevented from helping others, it means that they are not meant to receive my help. They need to go through their hardship as I have needed to go through mine.
- Life’s hardships have their gifts. Sometimes they are incredibly difficult to see and I just have to move through them. Hindsight always provides a clear picture of the purpose of my journey.
- When my plans are upset, accept that Life is pushing me in the direction that is best for me. Life is a river that flows to the sea. Trying to swim upstream brings tension and tiredness. Going with the flow is simple and easy. The river of Life will carry me to where I need to go.
- Develop wonder and anticipation when things change ‘suddenly’. Change the dynamic of disappointment. It is just a habit that comes from thinking I was in control.
- I’m always moving in the right direction, I am always in the right place at the right time. I can never get ‘stuck’. Thinking I’m ‘stuck’ is just the mind playing tricks on me because I think I am in control, I think I know where I should be.
- I can never make a ‘right’ or ‘wrong’ decision. There are no ‘right’ or ‘wrong’ paths. There are just decisions and paths, and every decision comes from a deeper urge to learn something, and the path I take contains the lessons designed by Life.
- There is nothing that I do or say that is not part of Life’s grand design. I am part of Life. I am Life’s manifestation of itself.
- When I don’t get what I want, it means I’m getting what I need.
- In any moment of my life, I have everything that I need. I have to remember this when I am struggling; the struggle is what I need to show me what damaging ideas needs to die.
- No matter what happens, or how bad things seem, I am always supported by Life. Life beats my heart and breathes my lungs, and keeps my body working even when I’m asleep. Everything always works out for the best.
